Pocket Spring Mattresses
A pocket sprung mattress, which is also sometimes referred to as a pocket spring mattress, is a more refined version of the conventional open coil mattress. Unlike the open coil design which has continuous coils that run the length of the entire bed, a pocket spring mattress construction houses individual coils that are cushioned in its own pocket of material and filling. These coils are vertically positioned and distributed throughout the mattress interior, pushing against the sleeper’s body weight. A well-crafted pocket sprung mattress can offer comfort and support in one package.
Although pocket sprung mattress designs are often touted as standard, one of the reasons why they have become so popular even in these recent years is because they still offer various advantages that cannot be found in other types of beds. For instance, pocket sprung mattresses are the best when it comes to couples with a significant size or weight difference. Other types of beds will not be able to equalize the varying weight, and so the lighter person will eventually end up rolling towards the heavier person’s side. Not so with a pocket spring mattress.
If you take a look at the cross section of this mattress, you will see hundreds (even thousands, for high-end models) of springs encased in its own pocket. These springs work independently of each other, so that it does not matter if one side carries more weight than the other. So since the pressure on these springs are not transmitted to those not directly bearing the weight, pocket spring mattresses can equalize lateral imbalances much better than any other kind of mattress. This is especially noted in high-end models with higher spring counts and wider surfaces.
