Sealy Mattresses

The makers of Sealy mattresses have more than a century and a quarter years’ worth of experience in the industry. The story of Sealy began way back in 1881, when a cotton gin builder living in Sealy, Texas began providing more comfortable mattresses than anyone else in his town. For this cotton gin builder, who went by the name Daniel Haynes, it all started when someone got wind of his own cotton-filled mattress and wanted one too. He filled in that first order, and word spread so that another order followed, and then another after that.

Haynes found himself in with a booming business. He began to incorporate innovations which he was soon able to patent, like inventing a machine which compressed cotton fillings. This continued for fifteen years, until Haynes decided to sell his patents to a Texas-based company who saw it fit to keep the Sealy brand name on all of them.

By the 1920s, the Sealy brand has become a household name, with a total of 23 licensed plants in the entire United States. Even the Great Depression which hit the US about a decade after did not derail the drive to keep introducing better products. It was, in fact, during the Depression that Sealy introduced the Button-Free Innerspring model.

Through the years, Sealy continues to provide better sleep for generations after generations. Sealy was actually the first to advertise a king-size bed; they founded the Orthopedic Advisory Board to improve the consumer’s Sealy experience—by doing so, they have managed to keep themselves as an undisputed industry leader. At present, Sealy holds the largest market share in the global market, especially in the US, Canada, and Europe.
