Single Mattresses (3ft)
The single mattress actually comes in two sizes: the small single which measures 2’6” x 6’3” (30 x 75) or 75 x 190 cm; and the standard single which measures 3ft x 6’3” (36” x 75”) or 90 x 190 cm. The small single mattress is perfect for small bedrooms, or bed frames that are narrow such as those used for children’s bunks or divans.
The difference in width between the small single and the standard single is a mere six inches. Even adults with a slender frame can find it comfortable enough to sleep in a small single mattress. The half-foot difference certainly makes decorating certain spaces easier, such as when trying to avoid making a bedroom look too crowded. However, if your room can accommodate the standard single size, we do recommend going for it—an extra six inches in sleeping space can significantly increase your comfort.
When shopping for a single mattress, keep in mind that because you will be using almost the entire sleeping surface of the bed, it will be subject to more rigorous wear compared to a larger bed like a double bed or a queen-sized mattress. The greater amount of tear it will sustained with nightly use means that it may need to be replaced sooner than its wider counterparts: something which should remind you to go for durability as well as comfort.
